Responsible investor relations
Socially responsible investors (SRI) seek financial returns with less harm to people and planet.
The SRI industry is complex and diverse. Some screen out controversial sectors (eg tobacco). Others view SRI performance as an indication of risk and opportunity management, believing they get better long-term returns by backing more sustainable companies.
We help clients understand who’s who in SRI and how to communicate effectively with key investors.
SRI briefings
We brief CR and IR managers on what socially responsible investors want, and which ones matter to their business.
Investor communications strategies
We help clients develop and implement successful strategies targeting key investors. We advise on integrating sustainability messages into mainstream investor briefings and help compile detailed sustainability credentials for SRI analysts.
We organise and facilitate briefings and research investor feedback.
Responding to investor questions/surveys
SRI researchers use detailed surveys to rank companies in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, the FTSE4Good and other indices. We have the experience and resource to fill out these questionnaires for our clients to review and approve. We help our clients achieve better ratings by understanding the expectations of the investor and matching these with the relevant information.
Facilitating investor meetings
There is no substitute for personal interaction with investors. We use our extensive contacts to ensure clients talk to the right investors and offer facilitation so our clients get the most from meetings.
Case studies
Supporting IR at WPP
Context has assisted WPP with SRI relations since 2002. We help the marketing services group respond to specific requests for information and facilitate meetings with investors. We prepare the first draft of the company’s Dow Jones Sustainability Index and Carbon Disclosure Project submissions.
Following investor feedback we are helping WPP to strengthen its risk management processes, Code of Conduct and to develop ethics training.
We also helped WPP to respond to investor requirements on human rights from research agency Ethical Investment Research Services. WPP is a constituent in the FTSE4Good Index.
